Quartz glass microphotoreactor

On the outside it looks like a simple glass block – however its special secret lies within: a wafer-thin opening, thinner than a human hair, that runs through the quartz glass microphotoreactors over a surface the size of an A4 sheet. These high-precision photoreactors are essentially very large flow cells with a height of approx. 35 cm. These reactors, together with ultraviolet radiation make it possible to produce an extremely pure agent by photolysis of a reaction solution, used for fighting colonic and rectal cancer. The reactors in this newly developed and patented process by (patented by W. C. Heraeus GmbH – a division of the precious metal and technology firm) constitute a key component of the system.
The requirements for production quality were highly demanding.

The big challenge for Hellma engineers was in
addressing the particular high demands for pressure resistance and parallelism. In close collaboration with the client a solution clearly suited to the application was developed and produced within a few weeks.

Hellma GmbH & CO. KG is the world market leader for cells and optical components made of glass and quartz for modern analytical sciences.
