The light mixer´s function is to produce absolutely uniformily illuminated surfaces. The extremely small dimensions are worthy of note.

This rod is only 30 mm long. The crosssection averages 0.5 mm x 0.6 mm (this corresponds to a surface of just 0.3 mm It is manufactured from SCHOTT BK7. All six surfaces are polished (including the cross-section surface!). Edge chippings reduce the function and are therefore not permitted. The end surfaces are coated with an anti-reflection coating.
